Granada FC

Granada Club de Fútbol is a club based in Granada, an autonomous community in the region of Andalusia. Established in the year 14 April 1931 under the name Recreativo de Granada.

Granada is the third Andalusian club who play in La Liga, after Sevilla and Real Betis, while diving debut in the 1941-1942 season. Since then until the 80s they continue to go up and down the Primera and Segunda Division, where their golden years came in the 70s when the last for eight seasons in the top division and recorded the best performance with twice finished sixth in the standings (1971-1972 and 1973-1974).

Other best achievement was a runner-up Copa del Generalísimo (or current Copa del Rey) in 1959. In the final held at the Santiago Bernabeu, they defeated FC Barcelona 4-1.

In 2009, the club suffered acute financial problems so it is almost close to bankruptcy, but they ultimately survived after signing cooperation with the Italian club Udinese including exchange of players.

After an absence of 35 years of La Liga, Granada could return to the top division in the 2011-2012 season after becoming the winner of the promotion playoff party - beat Celta Vigo and Elche FC.
